22nd March will see OptaPro return to Germany for its second conference in the country.
Taking place at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, over 80 delegates representing clubs from countries including Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium will come together for a presentation-based conference focusing on recruitment, tactical analysis and the application of analytics.
Elliott Williams, Recruitment Analyst at Brighton and Hove Albion, will deliver a presentation on recruitment, focusing particularly on the importance of data visualisation within this process.
Continuing the recruitment theme, Steve Houston will also deliver a presentation at the conference. With over 10 years' experience in elite sport including roles in the NBA and at Chelsea, Hamburg and Sunderland, Steve will discuss his experiences – both in in England and in Germany – working with head coaches and sporting and technical directors and the role of data in influencing people within a football club.
Additionally, OptaPro Data Scientist Sam Gregory and Head of OptaPro Ben Mackriell will deliver presentations at the conference.
These two presentations will provide an overview of more advanced metrics with an emphasis on how they can be applied to deliver detailed tactical analyses to help identify trends and team styles, along with exploring the influence of game-state on performance.
The one-day event concludes with a panel discussion. Hosted by Daniel Herzog, this panel features Elliott Williams (Brighton and Hove Albion) along with Bundesliga analysts Johannes Spors (Hamburger SV) and Hannes Dold (1. FC Kӧln).
This discussion will focus on how teams – both in Germany and in England - apply data within recruitment and match analysis, as well as looking into the integration of analytical processes, developing relationships with coaching staff and senior management and the differences in data culture between England and Germany.
