When does Opta complete its post match checks?

Opta collect 99% of its data live and checks all key events (shot, goal, assist) immediately post match. We then perform a full QC using a different team of analysts within 24 hours.

Why do I not have player names when I import Opta to SportsCode?

After selecting file and import Opta, you need to select the F24 event details file. However a 2nd file name srml-matchresults.xml must be in the same folder directory as the F24 file. It is this file which SportsCode will automatically load and call player names from.

How do I save column headers in DataScout by playing position?

When using grid view, right click and select "choose columns" and select those you wish to see. Then select save and apply, you will be asked to name this combination of columns. The next time you right click on the grid there is an option to select "retrieve settings" where your saved view will be listed. Users can then create a personal template of the stats they wish to look at for each playing position.

Where can I find a complete glossary of OptaPro's event definitions?

A full description of OptaPro's event definitions, and why it is so important to keep them consistent can be found on the OptaPro blog.

How do I see corner, freekicks and cross events in Xeatre's video player?

Xeatre can offer 2 levels of data integration - just events or including Opta event qualifiers. Please contact Xeatre to configure this: clubs@xeatre.tv

How do I use the query tool?

Rankings

• If you want all teams and players then select no one, otherwise specifically select teams and then players you want. You cannot select a player without also selecting his team.

• Then simply select which stats you want from each of the 8 slots - use the Min box to define a minimum value for that stat (e.g. at least 10 appearances)

• Select to rank then as a team total or by player

• Select if you want to limit the result to a specific number or home/away data.

• Select other options such as display teams, affilation (player nationality) and then click build to view the ranking or 'excel' to export it.

Data Output

• Same process, select competition, season and hit refresh

• If you want all teams/players then don't select anything. Otherwise you can select specific teams or players and then specific opposition (i.e. just data when playing against the top 4)

• Use options such age range to filter out players, playing position or date range.

• Then select Player Template and it will build a spreadsheet with 20 stats for the players who fit your criteria and the data will only be in the context of what you've search, i.e. against specific opponents or on a particular date. For access to the complete Opta data sheet please contact customerservice-uk@optasports.com

Do crosses include corners and freekick?

In default outputs yes, please check with Opta support who can provide either definition.

What is the difference between long and short passes?

Short passes are anything shorter than 25 yards, long passes anything over, Opta can provide individual passing distances in meters, please contact customer services for available outputs with this data. Opta can also provide data on "long balls", a pass aimed for a pitch position or 2nd ball rather than a specific player.

I cannot access Data Scout, and I am being asked to install plug-ins?

Data Scout is currently built in Silverlight, please follow the directed links to intall this plug-in. This will require you to allow Silverlight to use your internal storage to cache data. This will allow the program to run as fast as possible but does not significantly use up storage space.

In Data Scout, I cannot search for players across a specific selection of competitions?

Begin by selecting the "All" competition, this will pull back all available players across every competition available in your subscription. Then on the grid view right click and select "choose columns". On the right hand side of the new window you can select data such as player age and nationality but also competitions. Tick this and click apply. The new grid view then show a new column with the competition the player is currently playing in. Click the header of this column and you can filter out any competitions you do not wish to include.
