The third OptaPro Konferenz will be held in Germany during next month’s international break on 20th March.
For the second year running, the invite-only event will take place at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne. It will bring together analysts working at clubs across Germany and Northern Europe to discuss the real-world application of analytics in recruitment and performance analysis. Last year’s event attracted over 75 delegates working at 42 different clubs, leagues and federations.
Confirmed to speak is Liverpool’s Director of Research Ian Graham, who will deliver the keynote presentation. He will be joined on the event agenda by Southampton’s Lead Data Scientist Alex Kleyn, who will provide an outline of a framework on how data-driven scouting can make an impact in player recruitment.
Participating in a Q&A discussion, VfB Stuttgart’s George Syrianos will discuss his experiences of working in the Bundesliga and the approaches he has taken to extract key information from event data which can inform player analysis.
In addition, OptaPro’s football intelligence team will be delivering two applied sessions. The first session will consider where data analysis sits within a club’s holistic approach to recruitment and analysis, whilst the second will focus on quantifying playing styles underpinned by the Opta possessions and sequences framework. The latter will feature case studies from the 2018/19 Bundesliga season.
